Electrician in Darlington - Consumer Unit Upgrades & replacements 

Here’s a photo of today’s task, an upgrade of a consumer unit which has rewireable fuses. This installation is just outside of Darlington in Gainford village.

We will be upgrading this board with a Hager RCBO unit complete with surge protection. Where possible I’ll always leave some spare ways at least 20% for future circuits.

The board has RCBO’s instead of the more common dual RCD’s as it’s far superior in terms of nuisance tripping. Which makes it much more user friendly.

Here’s some images from a recently completed rewire in Hurworth little area just on the outskirts of Darlington. It is 3 bedroom property which was occupied however the client moved out for the week. This makes a massive difference when taking on a full rewire as each night we don’t have to be overly worried about getting the property back into a liveable state.

Only last week we replaced 32 lamps throughout a house in Darlington; from chandeliers, pendants, spot lights, cooker hoods and table lamps. You would be surprised how much you could save by replacing all those old style halogen lamps throughout your home, 32 lamps represent quite a saving!

In this latest project we had an existing unused garage space with a power supply already in place. 

The customer was looking for a way to add value to the property and create an additional living space for the evenings. 

We ripped out all the existing wires and ran in new for the sockets and lighting. There was a total of ten double sockets and nine down lights to be switched via a dimmer.

Here's a video from our most recent project that we have completed. It's a full rewire on a 2 bedroom property in Darlington. It had been tested initially for a letting agent and the verdict was that it failed due to the age and condition of the installation.

We’ve recently completed multiple rewires over the Christmas period and into the new year. Initially these projects were set to be smaller scale works. 

When quoting works whilst on site, I’ll check the install over very briefly looking for anything to tell me the age or condition of the wiring.

If I feel like it’s of a poor standard or is well below the current criteria which is deemed safe I’ll discuss with the customer that’s it’s best we carry out a full electrical safety check first before we carry out any works.
